of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce
from which we received the honor of Retailer
of the Year for 1994.
We are members of the Associated Florists of
Greater Rochester, Inc., an association of
florists who promote and educate the public
on floral industry affairs. Sheila Hamel was
awarded the "Florist of the year" award in
2002 from the only Floral Association In New
York State.
We belong to the Society of American Florists, which provides
marketing, business and governmental
services to all florists in U.S.
Flowers by Dick Burton is a member of FTD,
Teleflora, and an Associate Member of
1-800-Flowers — professional floral
organizations with the highest standards.
These allow the consumer to send or receive
floral selections world wide. Flowers By
Dick Burton won a national award from FTD in
2003 for "Floral Industry Service Award."
This award was presented to John & Sheila
Hamel at the FTD national convention in
Nashville TN by Mr. Robert Norton,
President/CEO (@ that time, on right side)
then Sheila next to him, John next to his
wife, and then Mr. Merlin Olson, famous
spokesperson for FTD on John's left. The
shop also has won 2 national awards in a
row, of being in the "Top 750 Members" out
of 20,000+ FTD florists!. In 2005, Mr. &
Mrs. Hamel will also win at this years
national convention to be held in Dallas TX,
an award of 25 yrs of ownership of Flowers
By Dick Burton, Inc. (they have been in the
floral/industry for over 32 years!
Sheila Hamel is a certified master designer.
She has extensively studied international
and European design techniques, and has won
many design contests on local, state and
regional levels. Sheila is currently working
on becoming a certified balloon artist. John
Hamel is a certified master florist manager
after completing workshops and courses in
areas of financial, marketing, and
managerial systems and techniques.
